Tommy Gwinn joined Cooper Norman in October 2013. Prior to joining the Cooper Norman team he practiced accounting with Eide Bailly, a large regional firm in Boise, ID, for 3 years as well as working for a short period with a small local firm in Pocatello. Tommy has developed expertise in tax planning and compliance and financial statement preparation. The majority of his time is spent working with closely held business owners in a variety of industries, with an emphasis in the medical field, as well as multi-state taxation of entities.
Tommy was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. He spent much of his youth playing sports, managing a lawn care business, and enjoying the great outdoors. Tommy was active in Boy Scout of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Highland High School with high honors, he went on to pursue a degree in accounting at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. He completed his undergraduate degree in 3 years and gained experience working as a tax seasonal tax preparer during tax season. He finished a Masters of Professional Accountancy in his fourth year at MSU at the age of 22. He was a recipient of several academic scholarships and awards. Shortly after graduation, Tommy passed the CPA exam with the 4th highest score in the State of Idaho for 2010.
Tommy maintains professional affiliation with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Idaho Society of Certified Public Accountants. He currently sits on the board for Pocatello Pedalfest, and event which generates thousands of dollars per year to benefit local outdoor facitlities and trails, and intends to get involved in coaching football at the little league/high school level in the upcoming year.
Outside of the office Tommy is an avid mountain biker and snomobiler, and also enjoys competitive athletics, fly fishing, golf, and most other outdoor activities.
